The original control panel wood was replaced. Too much wood to properly place the CPO back on top of it (there are screw attachments on the bottom). So, I broke out the jigsaw, and just started cutting away. Right now I can get it so it lays flat, but then […]

Examined the main boardset today. I had remembered seeing a couple gouged traces on initial examination. So today I dragged it out of it’s storage box, and sure enough, I’m guessing one of the joysticks must have smacked it during one of it’s several moves. At least six cut traces, […]
Pulled the monitor today – what a mess! Cobwebs everywhere. This allowed me to get to the bolts that hold the monitor enclosure onto the pedestal. Of course, I have to allow the paint to cure overnight. Problem is the monitor enclosure is just sitting on the pedestal. I *pray* […]
There are twelve carriage bolts holding on the monitor enclosure and the cabinet body. I’ve been removing them three at a time, wire wheeling them rust free, and painting them flat black. Doing them three at a time, I’ve gotten the ones on the bottom, closest to the body. I […]
Really should have gotten some pictures of this before I started work on it. Two years ago, when I took a tour of the boss’ warehouse (before I started working for him) I noted a Mortal Kombat in a Xenophobe cabinet. Didn’t think much of it at the time, as […]
I swiped the 486 out a while ago for an eMachines Delhi III board. It has a 500MHz chip, that I can unfortunately only get up to 450 MHz. 200MB drive with ArcadeOS and Mame .98. Galaga doesn’t run full framerate (59/60 FPS) but with a frameskip of 1, it’s […]
I really need to update more often. The monitor in the picture above had to be replaced. I’m not sure what happened. I left it on one night, and when I came downstairs in the morning the whole right side had a milky cast over it. A cap kit might […]
Hooked up the keyboard hack. Had to change around a *lot* of keys, since I’m using a non-standard layout. Glad I’m not going to be using VAntAGE eventually, I can’t play Galaga at all. The machine is just too slow. So I’ll use it to play Space Invaders and Galaxian […]
And here’s the picture. It’s 95% physically complete. Still need to polyurethane the sides, and get the hardware installed. Also want to replace the power cord, but can’t find my replacement cords. Some minor wood filler needed on a back upper corner, and some touch-up black paint in areas.
Really, *really* close to being done with the construction part. Heck, even the software part is mostly done. Since this project will (at least at first) just be running games that use similar controls to Galaxian (Galaxian, Galaga, Space Invaders, etc) pretty much all I have to do is shut […]
